So I am currently in the Las Vegas airport waiting to board the plane to New Orleans for the AAOS/J.R. Gladden Society Luncheon. I am really excited about this trip because it will allow me to connect with alot of the top minority orthopods from programs across the U.S. By God’s grace I don’t need to pay for my housing because of a housing grant from Nth Dimensions, but I did have to pay for my plane ticket. There are about 60 minority medical students from across the country that will be there, and someone I’m the only person that they put in a hotel by themselves. I was actually looking forward to getting to know someone else by being roommates, but whatever, I should still be able to make some friends.
Below is the basic intinerary for the JR Gladden Society Meeting:
Annual Luncheon: Enjoy lunch with JRGOS members, fellow students, residents and industry sponsors. Former Philadelphia Mayor, Reverend Dr Wilson Goode will present the keynote address.
Mentoring Workshop: Join your fellow students & residents for an informational afternoon on how to succeed in orthopaedics.
Mentoring Reception: Relax in an informal setting and interact with friends and with established orthopaedists involved in the practice of clinical and academic medicine.
Triology Breakfast: Mentees of three groups, the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society (JRGOS), the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS) and the AAOS Diversity Advisory Board, collectively known as the Trilogy Group will enjoy breakfast and learn about each group’s individual mentoring program and how you as students can become involved. Emphasis will be on how valuable these programs can be to your professional development.
