Missionary Orthopod in the Making

School is really starting up now. Our Histology teacher has been out of the country because his brother is dying, so we’ve had a sub. He’s a physician, which is kind of cool, but I have absolutely no idea where the guy is coming from when he gives us quizzes. He’ll choose the most minute tidbit of information, and ask you an in-depth question on it. How can you study for that? Anyway, it is slowly setting in that this is my last year at Oakwood College, and I’m getting sad. I’ve made it a point to try to participate in all the school events I missed while studying. I can go down .07 in my GPA and still be summa cum laude, so I have some breathing room. I’m gearing up for my first interview at Vanderbilt by looking on the Interview Feedback section of SDN. I’m going to compile a list the of the kind of questions they ask, and get friends to ask them to me. And I guess I’ll go over my AMCAS application and reread my personal statement. Nashville is an hour and a half drive from Huntsville, AL, so I’ll drive up the night before, stay at a friend’s house, and drive to Vanderbilt the day of the interview. If I get accepted to Vanderbilt, I’ll probably decline the interview for Meharry. For some updates, I have new interviews at the University of Maryland and the Loma Linda School of Medicine. Since Loma Linda is also a Seventh-day Adventist institution, we don’t actually have to fly to Loma Linda for an interview. Dr. Nyirady, the Dean of Admissions at LLU actually flies to Oakwood, and interviews every senior that has submitted a secondary application. So we are at least guaranteed interviews from LLU, even if you have a 2.6 GPA and a 19 MCAT. Praise the Lord for that!!! I’m really excited about the Maryland interview, and I just can’t wait to see where the Lord wants me to go. Oh yeah, and Howard sent me an e-mail saying that I’m complete. I’m going to try to call them and tell them that I’ll already be in the area for Maryland’s interview, and see if they will offer me one around the time I’ll be up there. I don’t want to fly up there twice, and even though they haven’t offered me an interview yet, I heard that mentioning that you already have an interview in the same area can help them hurry up and give you an interview invite.
