Praise god in whom all blessings flow. I can finally say that this past Friday marks the last post call day that I’ll have until August 30, 2010. While I never did hide the fact that I didn’t like pediatrics, I was blessed in that I actually had a bunch of patient’s with orthopedic problems. Like the one patient I admitted last night on call was a 3 year old girl with cellulitis of her right arm. That was honestly a very manageable patient. But once again today on my post call day rounds just seemed to last forever. I just don’t understand how it can take that long to take about a patient…its just inefficient. But yeah, I take my pediatrics self exam next friday and then I start 1 month of family medicine. And since I don’t start my orthopedic away rotation until august 30th, I won’t be on call again for 3 WHOLE months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And believe me I really needed that break because I was kinda burned out. I think these 3 months will give me time to recharge and not only that it will give me time to actually learn as much ortho as I can in preparation for my away rotations. The thing that scares me the most about my upcoming away rotations is my lack if ortho knowledge. I feel like I learned no orthopedics during the first two years of medical school. But that is really no excuse…other medstudents on their ortho away rotations learn enough to impress the residents, so that mean that I can too. I just don’t think I will be able to do it until I am done with these 3rd year shelf exams.
In other news, this weekend was the School of Medicine’s graduation so a lot of people that mentored me throughout my time will be leaving. Witnessing the graduation really gave me goosebumps; I just couldn’t believe that I would be in my graduation regalia in just 1 year. But first I have to match…once that is done then everything else will come.
