| I know that they say that everything God does it right, but sometimes I just don’t understand them at all. What’s up everyone!!! Well today is Tuesday, the night before my first day of school. Let me tell you all what has happened since I last posted. Well, I flew into Maryland on Friday and went to bed immediately. I did a presentation the next day at my church about my mission work in Africa this past summer, that was cool. That afternoon, all my family had dinner at my house. THE FOOD WAS OFF THE HOOK!!! Curry chicken, jerk chicken, rice and peas, macaroni and cheese, bread, bread pudding, etc. Next I went to another church to support my friend who was putting on a gospel concert, it went really well. I got a chance to chill with my best friend Kyle the whole time too. I hadn’t seen a bunch of my friends since we graduated high school, so we called each other and decided to meet at the Olive Garden in Laurel for dinner. All the while I’m driving my Dad’s ’94 Izuzu Rodeo. Just in case you didn’t know, my dad was giving me his Rodeo this school year. So we go to Olive Garden, have a great time, and then I go to drop Kyle home. I drop him home, and then as I’m stopped at a red light about to get onto I270, the car turns off!!!!!!! Now I’m a pretty tough guy, but I almost cried right there in my seat. Not because I was scared and didn’t know what to do, but because I knew that I wouldn’t be taking my car down to Oakwood now. I called my dad and he drove out to get me you (I broke down 1 ½ hours away). We found out that it was the alternator. So we replaced the alternator, and then we replaced all the belts. But my mom freaked and said that they have to let someone give it a complete once over before she would let me have it. So we rented a car and drove down to Oakwood. I was so mad that I wouldn’t be pushing a ride this year, but I guess that God had a reason for letting me go through this. Maybe there was a accident that I would have been in if we had left on time, or if I had drove that truck. So yeah, that was a real blower.
So, I’m at Oakwood now and we are gearing up for registration. We got to the gym around 7:30 a.m. to make sure that we are one of the first in line (yeah, people were there already). We get in, pay our money, then I go to my room. For those of you that don’t know, I’m doing a mentoring program this year. Basically what happens is that guys from the freshmen boys honors wing from last year, room which incoming freshmen guys on academic probation. They put us downstairs in these really nice and plush rooms, as to encourage our academic probation roommates to do better. I was a little worried about the program at first, because we don’t know who our roommate is until we get here, but I was blessed with a really cool roommate. He’s from Detroit, and he actually is an artist. He draws really well and wants to major in computer graphic design. Oakwood doesn’t offer that major so he’ll probably leave after the first year. But he’s down to earth, and very laid back. So yeah, I move in and unpack every including my baby (my computer). I hook my network cable into the wall jack and find out something very annoying. Because Oakwood had a lot of problems with viruses on the network, they are making everyone bring their computers into the gym so that they can update you virus software or install their own virus scan. Then the next day your network jack will be turned on. Isn’t that the most foolish method of doing that in the world!!! It was doomed for disorganization…there were hundreds of computers waiting to be check. So yeah, I do what I need to and go on my way. I meet a bunch of old friends basically chill. Overall registration was pretty cool. Now guys, I’m running into a dilemma. And for all you premeds out there, you will face this too….figuring out what extracurricular things to do. Right now I’m stuck between whether I should be a biology tutor or a biology lab instructor. I did so well last year in biology that I really want to give back. I don’t know what to do though in this regard. I’ll pray on it; I’m really tired so I’ll talk to you all tomorrow. The first day of school, isn’t it great!!! |
