Well, I took my first Organic Chemistry quiz today….and I completely failed it. I mean I got the biggest ZERO you could get on a 10 point quiz. It didn’t fail it because it was too hard, I didn’t fail it because I didn’t study, I failed it because I subtracted “24 – 18” wrong. I said it equaled 8 instead of 6. We were basically writing the Lewis structure of Ozone (O3), and before you can do that, you have to find the number of shared electrons between the 3 oxygens. Well, because of a stupid subtraction error, I had 2 extra bonds, and since all the questions after that were based on the first, even though I completed each question, I was using the wrong data so they were all wrong. I wanted to leave the class because I failed the first and easiest quiz we would ever take, just because I didn’t recheck my answers. Piece of advice to the other pre-meds, ALWAYS check your answers, no matter how confident you feel. Something in the back of my mind told me something was wrong when I was calculating the formal charges for the atoms and one of the oxygens had a formal charge of 2+. The O3 molecule is nonpolar, so it wouldn’t make sense for it to have a charge, but I didn’t recheck my stuff, so this is what happens. I wanted to leave the class and sulk for the whole day, but my girlfriend cheered me up and told me that this was just one quiz and I can do well on the rest of them if I just get over this one. So, that’s where I am right now. It was a really long day of class. Wednesdays are alright except for my Microbiology lab from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. The lady is crazy; she kept us in the lab for the whole time. She doesn’t believe in letting us out early, regardless of whether she had anything else to teach us. UUUUgggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!! So yeah once we watched a video on microbiology (from the 70’s) for 1 hour then we went on with other useless crap. I worked on some physics homework, it was pretty fun actually. I like physics because it’s visual. You can draw diagrams to help yourself solve the problem, and that always helps. Tomorrow is going to be crazy. I have a NAPS meeting from 6 a.m. – 7:45 a.m., then I have Physics Lab from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., then I have Organic Lab from 1:00 – 5:15 p.m., then I’ll be the lab instructor at the general biology lab from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. WHAT A DAY, pray for me yall!!!!
