I really want to thank all those who prayed for me when I took my Organic Chemistry final. I was so scared going into that final, but when I came out of it, I actually felt as if I had learned something that year. I’m a little pissed that I got an A- in Microbiology. I mean, I’m happy, but her grading scale is so stupid. A 92% is still considered an A-. Anyway, so my 4.0 is gone, it’s a 3.98, but that’s whatever; I’m just glad that it is all over.

I’ve been chillin at home (in Maryland) since Monday, and it has been wonderful. I don’t have to wake up expecting to turn in something or expecting to do something. I can just sleep the day away and feel good about it. As I told you guys before, due to the connections made during that ABRCMS conference in Dallas, I was able to set up a little interview with an admissions committee member at the University of Maryland SOM. It actually happened on Wednesday and it was really cool. Her name was Mrs. Hicks, and she was the coolest lady you could ever meet. We gave her our updated transcripts and she looked them over. She was very pleased with our grades and told us that we were on the right track to getting into medical school. She encouraged us (me and my girlfriend) that if we were to apply, it would be better to apply early (as in after our Junior year), than early decision because early decision is less guaranteed. She told us that everyone who applies to medical school has relatively good grades, so it is the other things like extra curricular activities that sets you apart. She told us that when she asks (and they always ask), “Why do you want to be a doctor, or Why Medicine?”, people normally give the answer, “Because I want to help people”. She says that when they say that, she usually comes back at them with, “Well you can help people in many careers like teaching, law, social work, etc, etc. So once again, why medicine instead of these other careers?” So yeah, basically you really need to think about that question, and although it may be true that you just want to help people, find a more thoughtful answer, because she will grill the mess out of you. But Mrs. Hicks was really really cool. She is a very talkative person, and very sharp also. She isn’t afraid to give you a bad report if you come off too arrogant. She was telling us about this guy from Hopkins. She said that he had like a 42 on his MCAT and a 4.0 GPA, but when she interviewed\ him, he mentioned that when he volunteered in the Hopkins hospital, he really couldn’t understand those (the African American) people when they spoke. She continued to talk to him and he told her that he really didn’t want to practice; he wanted to do an MD/PhD basically for the prestige and the freedom in research that it would give him. Despite his credentials, she told the admissions committee that she wouldn’t even send her enemy to him for treatment. They took her advice and he wasn’t accepted. So please guys, take Mrs. Hicks interview seriously; and she is very laid back, so laugh and have fun with her. I can’t wait until I have my real interview at UMD SOM, its gonna be cool cause me and Brittany already know her.

This week I’ve been on Autotrader.com and Cars.com looking for a used BMW for school. I know you guys are saying that Beamers are too expensive for a college student but they really have some good deals on them. I’ve been searching and searching, and I finally found one. It is a sleek, black 325i, 4 door sedan, with a 6 cylinder engine, power everything. It has 56, 876 miles on it, and they are selling it for $5,990. That is a freaking good deal. A BMW with 56K miles is basically a new BMW, because they last till about 300,000 miles. I put a deposit down on it, and my dad is going down to Thornburg, VA to check it out. I hope it all works out, because the car is so sexy. Anyway, yeah….I’m just enjoying life, and enjoying my time at home.
