LOL, my my my. I wonder if anyone still loves me. I probably lost 70% of my readers with my last post. Anyway, this post is going to be short because all hell is breaking loose right now. I have 3 Physics quizzes due online at 10 p.m. central time tonight, a Health Principles Final tomorrow, a Genetics test on Wednesday, an Organic Lab Final on Thursday, a Physics test on Friday and a Organic test on Friday. Its like these teachers think as long the information flashed on a PowerPoint slide, then they’ve taught it. I guess I just need to stop complaining, it will probably be worse in medical school. Most people probably didn’t read the post about my schedule for next year, so I’ll post it again:
The Gift of Prophecy – This is a religion class that is required. I think the class is about Ellen G. White, and how she received visions from God.
Art Appreciation – A really really stupid required core class. It better not take up too much of my time.
Histology – From what I’ve heard from my upper classmen friends, this class isn’t too hard, but its just a crazy amount of memorization of all the tissues and stuff.
Histology Lab
Plant Biology– Now I know that I could just be being very close minded, but I really can’t see myself enjoying this class. I want to be a doctor who takes bullets out of patients, I really don’t care too much about photosynthesis and the different genre of vegetation. I’m only taking this class because it is required as a biology major.
Plant Biology Lab– This lab is for 3 hours on a Sunday!!! This adds to my dislike for the class. Not only is it on Sunday, but the lab starts at like 8 a.m. on Sunday!!!
Introduction to Research– In this class, we basically pair with a teacher of our choice, and they help us develop and write a proposal for our own research project. Its good if you plan to go into research, but as a physician I don’t see myself writing too many proposals. Anyway, its required for my major, that’s why I’m taking it.
Mammalian Anatomy I– THIS CLASS IS GONG TO BE SO TIGHT!!!!!. Yeah, Oakwood is one of the few undergraduate institutions that have cadavers in their science department. The lady who teaches this class, used to teach Gross Anatomy to the medical students at Loma Linda University, so basically we are getting taught the same way. That is why Oakwood graduates do so well their freshman year in med school, because they have already taken Gross Anatomy basically. So yeah, usually this class is reserved seniors, but I caught wind, that Dr. Maulsby (the teacher) was in need of lab instructors, because basically she was running every single mammalian lab (there are about 8 of them). Usually lab instructors are hard to find, since most of the students take the class their senior year, but every once and awhile, she lets some juniors in, if they promise to be a lab instructor their senior year. So that’s what I’m doing, and I’m so excited. DISECTING CADAVERS!!! Of course, this class requires ridiculous memorization of all the body parts, muscle insertions and origins, bones, etc. But I’m really excited, and plus I get to wear scrubs to class ( I know it sounds stupid).
Mammalian Anatomy Lab
So yeah, that’s my schedule for next semester. I think that I’ll be taking like 18 hours, but of course that doesn’t include the labs which don’t count for any hours, even though they each usually last for 3 hours per session.
The fact that I still get comments with racist statements shows me that affirmative action is still needed. There are still many out there who would love to keep minorities out, and the more racist comments I receive the more I realize that. I have to admit, I was against affirmative action at first because in Maryland, I had never experienced any discrimination. But SDN has helped me to realize that there are still many of yall out there.
The Oakwood Biomedical Association had elections, and I won the VP spot. I’m pretty happy about that, because I can kind of spend time working on personal projects, rather than contacting everyone as the public relations officer.
The money for the Kaplan MCAT prep is completely due by April 22. I think they want $899 by that date. I’m going to have to sell my body in order to get that money ( no one would pay for a 6’5 220lb black guy with a 4 pack right?). They also gave us the schedule, and the actual program starts on June 5th, which means that I basically have time to go home from May 9th to June 4th; then the studying starts. I had bought the Kaplan comprehensive review book this past summer, so I could start studying, but have I even opened it????? NOPE. So yeah, even though I’ll be on break, I’m going to at least try to start early and go through that book.
I also need to start saving money for an engagement ring. I know your saying, “But DoctaJay, you are only 19 years old, why are you thinking about that.” And to that I say, if you know what you want, and you find it, why deliberate? Of course by the time I marry her (after we graduate from Oakwood), we would have been dating for 4 years, which is more than enough time. I don’t know, I think that the married life would actually be kind of cool. Especially the sex part; I think I heard somewhere that married people have more sex than single people. I think that is wonderful, LOL. I’ve been waiting tttttttttooooooooooooo long, but I know it will be worth it. To know that what you are giving you wife, you’ve saved just for her, and no one else has had it, is kind of special. Of course sex isn’t the only cool thing about marriage, you also get to be around the person all the time, which I already enjoy. One thing that is going to be weird is saying, “Hey so and so, this is my wife”. To me that sounds so grown up, and I don’t know if I’m going to get used to it. Anyway, I aspire to get her a 1 carat diamond, but those things cost like $2000, so I’ll really have to work my butt of to get money. Sounds like no more gadgets for me!!! I was looking online, and I think I know what would look nice on her. I was looking at a princess cut diamond, with either a solitare setting or a cathedral setting. The solitare highlights the diamond, while the cathedral setting slightly covers the diamond, but I looks really classy. I don’t know, all this stuff is so hard….the things we go through for you girls 
Do you all know of any jobs that I could do where I could make a lot of money really quick. I’ll only be home for like 1 month, so I’d need to do it then, cause I don’t think I want to work and study for the MCAT at the same time, that might be too much work.
Anyway, yall might now hear from me for a little while, because these tests are looking pretty rough. Pray for me that I do well, and I hope you guys do well on everything as your year wraps up too. I might not post, but leave me a comment, and I’ll definitely respond.
