Ah, yes, two more days of school, then finals next week. Today went really well, probably because I took time to have devotion this morning, but also, this day was just overall good.
We had a genetics test today at 9 a.m. The test was pretty fat, but it was relatively straight forward. The information covered included somatic hybridization, conjugation, transformation, transduction, replication in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, transcription in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, and some translation. When I came out of the test, I felt pretty good about it. I really like the way Dr. Durant teaches Genetics. She really hates powerpoints, so she writes everything on the board or gives us handouts. I like this much more than powerpoints, because it doesn’t give teachers the chance to fly through slides and say they taught you. She still flies though (one time I had 3 pages of written notes from one 50 min session), but at least I have time to understand in class. When teachers flash through powerpoints, I might as well not come to class, because I could read the same thing in my book. But I guess that is where most teachers are moving now, so it makes no sense to complain. Since it was a ScanTron test that we took today, we got our results soon after. The highest grade was a 92%, and the next highest grade was a 84%. I’m not sure where I was ranked, or how many people scored higher, but I got a 81%. I expected higher, but at this point I know I did my best, so its whatever.
Another thing that made my happy today was the results of my organic test I told yall about in my last post; I got an 86%!!! I was ranked 7th in the class with a B- before this test, so this grade should put me where I need to be. My final test should bring my grade to an A, but that really all depends on how I do on the final. This final is different from most, because we are taking the ACS (American Chemical Society, I think) exam for our final. This test truly is a beast, and I’ll really have to review like crazy to be ready.
Well, my Physics teacher realized that the majority of the class didn’t do well on the test, so he gave everyone 5 points. So that pulls me to a ………53%, LOL, a higher F. I really appreciate all of the comments in my last post, but especially the posts by Rich, Shawn and Shahada. You all are right; while it really is nice to get an A, if you don’t, its not the end of the world. I guess I wanted to prove to myself that being off campus wouldn’t affect my grades, but I got a A- last semester when I was on campus, so I guess it doesn’t matter too much. Now, it is still possible that I might get an A in Physics if I blow the final out the water, meaning a 100%, but if I don’t (you all are right), it really isn’t the end of the world. People have gotten into medical with B’s and maybe C’s in Physics. Learn from my mistakes everyone, don’t give yourself an ulcer because you think you won’t get an A. Thanks for the encouragement guys and gals!!!
I have like two weeks left, before my girlfriend will be gone for 6 weeks. She’s going to India with NAPS this summer to do mission work. I really wanted to go, but my sister is graduating from high school on June 10, and they don’t get back to America until June 16. Sigh, lol, this sounds wimpy, I know, but I haven’t been apart from her for that long since I first asked her out 2 years and 4 months ago. We were in separate states this past summer when we did research, but at least I could call her whenever I wanted. I won’t be able to even hear her voice for 6 weeks, sniff, sniff. LOL, I guess I’ll make it, but it will be a different experience.
