Well, the studying has been going pretty well so far. On Monday I did 17 AAMC verbal passages. Needless to say, by the end of the day, I was exhausted, but at least I’m pretty confident about verbal passages. I’m realizing that practice truly does breed confidence. I was almost terrified of organic passages, and now after doing a good amount, I’m still not comfortable, but I’m not scared either. The more passages and discreet questions you do, the more you realize that there is only so many ways they can ask you a nomenclature question, or a torque question, or a Chi squared question. Now I’m surely not busting 95%s on these Kaplan Organic Topical and Subject tests, but I’m learning from my mistakes. And that’s the biggest part of the battle. A lot of the people I know that are retaking the Kaplan this year said that last year, all they did was the requirements. I guess I’m about doing the opposite. I’m basically ignoring most of the requirements and doing all the strongly recommended material like the topical, subject and AAMC tests. I’m sure everyone has their own strategy, but mine is to not spend a whole lot of time reviewing foundational information. You took a whole year of the subject, that should be a good foundation. Just do the subject, topical, aamc, and full length tests, and then do the corrections. If there is a concept that you just flat out don’t know, then you should look back on your review material. I had a dream like night that I got a 33 R on my MCAT, wouldn’t that be nice, lol. From perusing the MCAT forum, I’m realizing that I’m not the only one dreaming of good scores. So yeah, yesterday I didn’t get much done. I started off pretty well, doing some verbal passages, and some organic subject tests, but then one of the girls in the Kaplan center saw a mouse. And since I was the only guy in the center at the time, I guess it was my ordained duty to find it and kill it. So for two bloody hours, I was looking for that thing. The first 30 minutes, I was looking for it, just so the girls would calm down. But the last 1 ½ I was looking for it cause it was hurting my pride that I hadn’t killed it yet. It was a fast little bugger. It kept hiding behind the desks and the wall. So I took a nice thin metal pole, and started jamming it back there. Lol, of course now all the girls are on top of the desks, studying while I’m trying to crunch this mouse. I heard a shrill screech from the mouse, and slid the desk from the wall so I could see if I kill it, but it ran away. We didn’t see it after that though, because I’m sure I injured it. Anyway it was a job well done, and even though I didn’t do well on the organic subject tests that day, at least I got to cause a mouse pain, :-). ( You know it amazing me, that women can pour hot wax on their legs, take some paper, and RIP the hairs of their legs, but they are scared of mice. Lol, the former seems much more intimidating.) Oh yeah, my $600 Pocket PC crashed. So now I’m phoneless, and of course my girlfriend is rubbing it in, seeing as how she didn’t want me to buy the thing anyway. Well, its still under warranty, so I’ll just send it off to the service station in Texas. But it is weird not having a cell phone. Its actually more peaceful. I don’t’ have to worry about anyone interrupting me while I’m studying, reading, crapping, whatever. It should be back at my house next week, so hopefully that works out. Oh yeah, Kaplan had been getting a lot of complaints about our Physics and G. Chem teachers, so they are offering to have extra sessions to cover those classes and they are replacing the teachers. I’m probably still not going to go to class, but at least my fellow Kaplan friends can have a respectable class. I still think the classes are too focused on review, and not really focused enough on strategy. But its whatever.
Did anyone see the BET Awards show last night? It was actually really good and classy. The duet with Stevie Wonder and John Legend was amazing and Will Smith and Jada Pinkett were hilarious as hosts. Two thumbs up from DoctaJay and Ebert. Anyway, since I obviously have nothing substantial left to say, I’ll try to write later. Peace.
