I think I’ve lost my mojo

I think I’ve lost my mojo. You know that drive and excitement that you have at the beginning of school to get all your work done and go to class? It’s gone for me. I’ve talked to a bunch of my friends, and we’ve all agreed that the culprit is the MCAT. We studied ALL summer long, really intensely for this MCAT test. We took the test on August the 21st and school started on the 25th. So we really didn’t have any kind of vacation or break to recuperate from the previous school year or from the MCAT prep course. So yeah, I don’t feel like going to any classes, I don’t feel like being at school, and our MCAT scores are still about 60 days from arriving. Okay, so that was my vent. The only thing that is really keeping me going is the Human Anatomy class. I’m really loving the dissecting, and the learning of the insertion points, origins, innervations, actions, structure, etc of all these muscles. This class really reminds me that medical school is right around the corner, and that I can make it there if I just hold on. We had our first real quiz today and it was pretty cool. The quiz was over all the back muscles, their origins, insertions, innervations, blood supply, and actions. We also had a practicum where the lab coordinator basically had pins with numbers taped on to them stuck into the muscles we learned. I’m pretty sure I did alright on most of it, but she had a pin stuck in the area where the greater occipital nerve and artery lie. This artery and nerve are pretty intertwined and she had the pin stuck under both of them. Its really vague crap like that that can get slightly annoying, but overall I love it. We have to wear scrubs to class, so I just wear it the whole day; people look at me like I’m already a doctor (I love it, lol). But really I hate dressing up anyway, so having an excuse to where scrubs all day is great for me.

In the beginning of this post I vented about not wanting to do anything, but I’m realizing that if I need to get good grades in any year, it’s this year, my junior year. This year will be included on the transcript that I submit to AMCAS next summer, not my senior year, so I really need to keep my grades up.

But yeah, after coming from studying for the MCAT, nothing else really seems hard. I don’t feel like doing it, but its not hard. Like in Plant Biology class on Wednesday, our teacher put a question up on PowerPoint that she took from a Biology GRE book. She put it up to go through it and to show us how we should be thinking when we come across questions on standardized tests. She took like 15 minutes going through it when I along with the other people that took the MCAT figured it out in like 45 seconds. Its going to be a long semester.

I truly HATE PLANT BIOLOGY. The only interesting thing we learned is what plants would be helpful if we are stranded in the wild. Everything else is truly annoying. I can’t comprehend why I have to learn the scientific names of dozens of plants. I’m never going to be walking in a park and scream, “Oh my gosh, that’s a Digitorum Perposus!!!” But I guess since I’m a Biology major they are training me to be a scientist, not a doctor. Anyway, I’m happy, content, bored with school, anxious about the MCAT, homesick, and ancy to buy a new gadget. So yeah, everything is pretty much like always. I’ll write again when something interesting happens.
