Man, there sure has been an explosion of SDN writers lately! I like it though, it makes me write more so I won’t be at the bottom of the list! Anyway, some interesting things have happened in the past couple of days. First, my school had there annual Honor’s Convocation where they honor the students who have done well academically in front of the whole school. By God’s grace I made the Dean’s List, but the Lord blessed me with even more. For a while I’ve been complaining to God that its just not fair. So many of my classmates are having sex, drinking, smoking, etc., and they end up getting $10,000 scholarships from UNCF or other programs. While me, who is hardly home because I’m doing so much mission work, and despite having done well academically HAVE NOTHING. And FAFSA is useless to me, because they think my parents have money, even though they don’t. Well at the Honor’s Convocation, each department chair got up and gave out awards to specific students in their department. I along with 2 other people ended up receiving a $500 scholarship from the department on my bill. After all the department chairs handed out their awards, then President Baker (the president of the college) got up to hand out awards to the student in each class with the highest GPA. Honestly to my surprise, I ended up having the highest GPA out of all the juniors! I don’t know why the Lord keeps lifting me up like this, but I know that I can only attribute these successes to Him. Anyway, all the awardees for that award received $500 on their bill also. So I got a $1000 scholarship this past Tuesday! The Lord always does things better than I could have asked for.
I COMPLETELY failed my Gross Anatomy quiz today. The written section definitely and most of my practicum. I was pretty broken up at first because I had never failed a quiz before that I pretty much felt ready for. But a good friend of mine Darla gave me some encouraging words. First of all, how could I even get mad, after all the blessings from this past Tuesday?! I was forgetting already how far the Lord had brought me. Darla reassured me that this quiz is like a speck in the whole spectrum of things, and she was right. Its just one quiz…and its probably good that I failed it, so I can study the right way next time, instead of being over confident about the quiz.
My basketball intramural team is in the championship!!! Basketball is the one physical activity I still do when I’m not studying. Its always good to get the blood pumping. We had to play a pretty good team tonight to advance to the championship, but it worked out in the end. I hardly got any playing time, and at first I was kind of mad, but I tried to be more of a team player and cheer the team on (lol, as lame as that sounds).
Hopkins e-mailed me today about their summer program, and told me that housing wasn’t free, lol. So I decided that this summer I’ll just live at home, keep all my $4,000 and make that commute to B-more.
